Micro-Intern: Simulating Robots driven by muscle-like actuators (IAP)
Job Opportunity: MIT micro-internship
Elysium is an early-stage company headquartered in Austin, developing revolutionary low-cost, highly capable robotic systems. Our robots will fulfill labor shortages by automating tedious and repetitive tasks that current robots can't do, and humans don't want to. Our core technology is a proprietary muscle-like actuator that solves a decades-old robotic problem. This has the potential to transform civilization.
We seek highly driven, well-rounded, curious, and independent contributors to join a world-class team of mavericks at the ground level and revolutionize robotics.
Job Description: The candidate will assist in:
- Simulating simple robotic systems (fingers, hands, legs) driven by our muscle-like actuators. This will include:
- Selecting a Robotic Simulation Environment and creating a shared environment or container.
- Creating a parametric model that predicts the force production of our actuators (vs. length and voltage) and implementing it in said environment.
- Producing high-level CAD models of robotic systems (a pogo-stick leg, a finger, a hand) driven by our actuators and importing them into the said environment.
- Developing simple control algorithms to animate said models (i.e., make the leg hop, or run, and the fingers grip some object).
Required Skills: The candidate should be:
- Capable and experienced in setting up complex software packages within containers or similar distributions.
- Capable of creating mathematical models to fit data and implementing them in code (Python preferred).
- Capable of performing CAD work (Fusion preferred)
- Self-motivated, curious, and efficient with an attitude for improvement.
- Candidates will receive dedicated training on all tasks but are expected to be self-learners.
Scope and Compensation
- Candidate will be engaged as an hourly contractor at $TBD/hour based on experience.
- Initial engagement will be ~30 hours/week, depending on the candidate and workload.
- This is a remote position with flexible hours and days. Elysium will work with candidates to establish a functional and adaptive schedule.
